This calendar or Menology is dedicated to all those who suffered for the faith in the British Isles in whatever way, especially those whose names are not recorded here but known only to Almighty God.
The sufferings undergone, especially by the Reformation martyrs and confessors was not only physical and financial. While imprisoned it was general practice to subject Catholics to Protestant preachers which abomination – for a Catholic – was also done to those ascending the steps of the scaffold.
