About the Director
Hugh Williams has been a published author since 1988. His work, "Private Company Secretary’s Manual", published by CCH Wolters Kluwer, the preferred publisher for the Institute of Chartered Accountant’s in England and Wales has been one of the best selling books on company law.
Hugh trained with Deloitte, Plender and Griffiths, qualifying in 1970. After some time as accountant to the Consumer’s Association, publishers of Which?, where he learned what it was like to be a client of an accountancy practice, he left London to establish his own accountancy practice, H M Williams Chartered Accountants in 1973.
Renowned for their customer focused approach, his firm has won two national awards: The Daily Telegraph Customer Service Award, the first professional firm of any discipline to win it, and the Butterworth Tolley award for best Tax Team in a Small to Medium Sized Business.
Hugh has written numerous other works, including his pro bono publico work for the Tax Faculty, “Small Practice Tax Guide” (1998) co-authored with Robert Maas.
Since 2001, and working with others in his practice, he has become Lawpack Publishing’s best selling author with acclaimed titles such as their two annual tax “Tax Answers at a Glance” and “101 Ways to Pay Less Tax”.
His book “Proper Coffee” (2005) draws on his experience as a business development consultant.
He is the managing director of St Edward’s Press Ltd and, while planning to maintain his working relationship with Lawpack and their established titles, other non-technical titles, in future, will be published by St Edward’s Press Ltd.
